Police personnel seeking transfers raise suspicion

Bengaluru: Even after a series of re-shuffling in the state police department, the Karnataka Home Department continues to receive letters from the personnel seeking transfers in and out of the city.

According to sources from the police, around 36 personnel including 12 Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) and 24 Police Constables attached to police stations in Bengaluru Central Division have sought transfers to different stations.

The 36 letters submitted by the personnel to the state Home Department has raised eyebrows of many authorities and efforts are on to ascertain the reason behind this.

However it is suspected that a few personnel in Cubbon Park Police Station are unhappy with their Station House Officers (SHO) due to various work-related disagreements.

While these transfer problems are part of police life, the sheer number of transfers also affect the law and order situation at the grassroots level.

Many officials believe that Bengaluru needs a sizable number of police officers at least on ground who have adequate knowledge about crime, troublemakers in the area, and other details that come in handy when tackling important cases.

The senior police officials and ministers, on multiple occasions, have stated that the police department needs more strength to fight the rising crime in the state. During March, the State Budget for 2023-24 announced the sanction of 2,000 more posts for the Bengaluru City Police.
