Bengaluru: The five officials from Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) who were arrested following the tragic electrocution of a 23-yearold woman and her ninemonth-old baby, were released on station bail from the Kadugodi police station on Monday after questioning.
On Sunday, Soundarya and her daughter, Suviksha, died on the spot after they stepped on a live electricity wire lying on a pavement near Hope Farm.
It was revealed that Soundarya and her husband along with the baby had just arrived from Tamil Nadu and were going towards their house in AK Gopal Colony around 6 am when the incident took place.
The police said that they have recorded statements of the accused officials of BESCOM and further investigation is on to ascertain the exact reason behind the accident and the people involved.
The officials were booked under Section 304(a) of the IPC, which is bailable in nature. Several people, including the family of the deceased along with residents and activists, staged a protest on Monday and demanded strict action against the accused BESCOM officials for their negligent attitude.
The people raised concerns over pedestrian safety stating that footpaths in and around the area have become a nightmare for people, especially senior citizens.
Last year during the rain, a 23-year old woman died of electrocution after she came into contact with an electric pole while navigating a flooded road here. She was a "pillar of support" for the family, both financially and morally.
