Bengaluru: Tragedy struck on November 19 at Hope Farm Signal Junction, Whitefield, when 23-year-old Sowndarya and her 9-monthold daughter Suviksha were electrocuted to death.
Senior Bescom officers investigated the case following the orders by the Energy Minister's directives.
Navigating footpaths: A risky affair
Loose wires scattered across the city of Bengaluru have turned walking into a risky endeavour.
The prevalence of these hazardous wires poses a serious threat to pedestrians, creating an environment where safety is compromised. Navigating the city's sidewalks has become a dangerous task, demanding constant vigilance to avoid potential dangers.
A resident of Kormangala, who wished to remain anonymous, said that they (his family and neighbours) are "fed up" with the loose wires on the footpaths.
"It's a miracle more people haven't been electrocuted," the resident said. He blamed Bescom for the problem. "Bescom needs to do a better job of maintaining the power infrastructure," the resident said.
He added, “It is the responsibility of the Bescom to make sure the wires and poles are maintained properly and not our responsibility to take every step with caution.”
After the incident, netizens took to social media to criticise Bescom and their negligence. The situation is concerning because Bengaluru is a busy city, and loose wires not only put people at risk but also make residents anxious. Bescom needs to do better to keep everyone safe.
They should check and fix wires regularly, make sure they're safe, and quickly fix any loose ones. If people see loose wires, they should inform Bescom and ensure they are being removed safely.
