Accused suspected to be involved in more than 900 sex-determination tests and abortion cases

Bengaluru: The Byappanahalli Police in the city have intensified the probe to nab the absconding accused in the sex determination racket that was busted in October.
As reported by News Trail earlier, a patrolling team on October 25, had intercepted an SUV on Old Madras Road here during a random check.
The police found five people and a pregnant woman in the car. Questioning the woman, the police learnt that they were returning from a makeshift lab in Mandya where a scan was done to determine the sex of her foetus.
Arresting the five men, the police busted the racket that was reportedly operating for more than two years in Bengaluru, Mandya and Mysuru.
Speaking to News Trail, the police said that so far 9 persons have been arrested in connection to the case. The police said the accused have been identified as Dr Tulsi Ram, Dr Chandan Ballal, Meena, Rizma, and Nissar, who operated the racket in a coordinated manner.
Dr Ram, the owner of Matha Hospital had reportedly handed over the charge of the hospital to his associate, Dr Ballal, who was managing the facility with his wife, Meena, as the former had to go back to his hometown Chennai for some time.
Following an interrogation, it is suspected that the accused were allegedly involved in more than 900 sex determination tests and abortion cases.
As per the information obtained from the accused, the police said that at least four more accused who were involved in the racket, are absconding. Efforts are on to nab them soon, the police added.
