Bengaluru: A 38 year old ex-employee of a highend bike showroom in the city was arrested on charges of having cheated the dealership to the tune of Rs 5.15 crores.
The accused was identified as Rakesh, a resident of Kukatpally at Ranga Reddy district in Andhra Pradesh, worked at a Ducati bike showroom for 5 years holding a post of Head of Operations.
However he had resigned on October 20 citing health problems in his family and returned to his hometown.
A recent audit at the showroom revealed that the accused had sold a total of 21 bikes between July 2019 and September 2022.
However none of the sales were recorded in the records maintained at the dealership nor was the amount deposited in the company bank accounts. Based on a complaint by CN Mahesh, the General Manager of the company, the accused was summoned by the police and questioned.
It was revealed that the accused had sold the bikes and transferred the sale amount for personal use.
The accused had also sold bikes to the customers at concessional rates and also got the registration done for BS4 bikes with the help of a tout at Kurung Kumey RTO in Arunachal Pradesh.
These bikes were sold to customers from other parts of the country. The police have recovered 10 bikes sold by the accused so far and efforts are on to recover the remaining bikes.
It was revealed that each of the sold bikes carried a priced tag between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 40 lakh.
Police suspect insiders to be involved
The police are looking at different angles in the case wherein some other insiders could be involved in the scam.
They pointed out that the company should have followed certain procedures of sale such as inventory of bikes received, sales and delivery notes along with invoice details which should have been sent to the RTO.
An inquiry is also being conducted.
