Another nurse arrested in illegal foeticide racket

Bengaluru: The city police investigation into the illegal abortion and foeticide cases has revealed that infanticide and gender detection were not only being done at Matha Hospital but also in another hospital in Mysuru.
Suspecting that the infanticide racket was being run at the Chamundeshwari Hospital in Mysuru, an investigation team sent from Byappanahalli Police Station in Bengaluru, visited the place and inspected the staff leading to another arrest.
Usharani, 35, a head nurse at the hospital, was arrested by the police. Based on the information obtained from Usharani, it was revealed that the abortions were conducted for women on the directions of a broker, identified as Puttaraju Anathi, the police said.
Puttaraju used to take pregnant women to Matha Hospital and Chamundeshwari Hospital.
Later, Usharani would conduct the abortions. The police are interrogating Chamundeshwari Hospital owner Jagadish and have issued a notice to him. The police have also sought all records of Chamundeshwari Hospital.
