Bengaluru: It was a shock for the Krishnarajapuram Police on Saturday around 11:30 pm when they received information of a person being dragged into a car by threefour men from his house.
Acting swiftly, the police officials started scanning the CCTV footage of the vicinity and indeed found a man being dragged into a Maruti van by four unidentified people.
The police flung into action and identified the registration number of the van. They started enquiring about the car being involved or used for any criminal cases across Bengaluru. They found a similar complaint from another area where some residents had alerted the police about kidnapping involving the same van.
The police further carried out their investigations with all possible angles and the trail led them to one of the city’s rehabilitation centres. The police were surprised to find that the van belonged to a rehabilitation centre and the person dragged into the van was an escaped patient of the centre.
Later the police found that the person was earlier admitted to the centre by his family members due to his alcohol addiction. However, he recently ran away from the centre and returned home.
He swore that he would not drink again. “But he broke the promise and took to drinking, despite the family’s warning that they will send him back to the centre,” the police told News Trail. With no other choice left, the family members informed the centre and the staff took him back for rehabilitation.
The police, however, said the Bengaluru residents are more alert nowadays due to rising crimes and felt they should continue to do so and alert the police whenever they find something wrong going on. “Quite a case. But nonetheless, a humorous one!” the police added.
