Chikkaballapur: All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) organized their 11th Bengaluru District Level Student Conference in the city on Saturday, demanding a pro-student education policy on the occasion.
Student leaders laid claim to the abolition of the National Education Policy (NEP) in Karnataka, citing their movement against it.
They also called upon the State government to not depend on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to fund government schools, rather take full responsibility for it under the new State Education Policy (SEP).
They added that government schools ought not to be closed due to low enrollment.
"The main reason for the removal of NEP 2020 in the state is the struggle of the students and student movement. And further said, in the State Education Policy, the government should take full financial responsibility for the management of government schools and colleges, and should not depend on students' money to manage government higher education institutions,” AIDSO state vice president Abhaya Diwakar said.
“Merging and closing of government schools in the name of low enrollment should be stopped. Instead of seeking financial assistance from corporate companies to run government educational institutions, the government should provide them with the tax money collected from the people,” she added.
“It is the duty of the students to protect it from becoming a business, because the education we are getting today is the result of their struggle and movement,” AIDSO State Secretary Ajay Kamath said.
AIDSO Bangalore district also elected new office bearers during the conference. Apoorva CM was made district president. Kalyan Kumar V was nominated as the Secretary. Meghna, Rohit and Yashwant were made vice presidents.
Nawaz was made the Treasurer and Kiran was named the Office Secretary. A council of 89 members was elected, including a 14-member secretariat and a 57-member committee.
