Kolar: The Morarji Desai residential school at Yaluvanahalli village in Kolar where students were asked to clean a septic tank recently, has been witnessing a spate of dignitaries and political leaders in the last four five days.
On Friday Anju Bala, member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes visited the school.
Accompanied by Kolar Deputy Commissioner Akram Pasha and Superintendent of Police M Narayan, she went around the school and inspected the site of the septic tank.
She held a discussion with the inmates of the school and heard their grievances assuring them that adequate steps would be taken to provide them all amenities at the school.
She directed the authorities to take stern action against those responsible for getting the soak pit cleaned by the students and said it was unfortunate that teachers have asked the students to get into the pit knowing very well the danger involved.
Meanwhile the student strength at the school has slumped following the incident on Sunday as nearly ninety students have opted out of the school said sources.
Of the ninety students, twenty six have stated that they have health issues and will return to school shortly. The parents of the rest of the students have stated that their wards are fear stricken and they would return to school once the situation eases.
The district administration has taken steps to shift all teaching and non teaching staff working at the school.
Of the seven teaching staff, cases have been booked under various actions against three permanent teachers, while two of the guest faculty have been terminated and two others have been shifted.
All the non-teaching staff including those working in the cooking and cleaning section have been swapped with personnel working at another residential school in the taluk.
