Bengaluru: A rowdy sheeter was hacked to death by a group of unidentified armed men in full public view near Lakkasandra in the city on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Jaiprakash.
According to sources from the spot, the deceased was chased for around one kilometer before he was cornered at a private hotel by his attackers around 6 pm.
The armed men allegedly wielded machetes and brutally assaulted Jaiprakash before fleeing from the spot.
The jurisdictional police revealed that Jaiprakash was one of the accused in a 2009 murder case following which he was imprisoned for a brief period. It is suspected that an old grudge between the gangs was the cause of the murder.
Sources added that Jaiprakash was involved in a food donation initiative at a local temple in Lakkasandra. During this time, a gang including four-five members located him and began chasing him until they reached a hotel here.
Alerted, the Adugodi police rushed to the spot and dispersed the crowd. Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East, CK Baba visited the spot along with a team.
"The deceased had taken part in a food donation initiative at Anjaneya temple here on the occasion of Hanuma Jayanti. A gang of unidentified assailants had been observing him for a long time after which they chased and hacked him to death here. We have formed five teams and efforts are on to identify and nab the assailants," Ck Baba told News Trail.
