Volunteers from Bengaluru bring a smile to the ones affected by Tuticorin Flood

Bengaluru: Last week a group of volunteers from Bengaluru had embarked on a journey to Tuticorin with essential items for the ones affected by massive rains and consequent flooding.

Tauseef Ahmed, who is associated with a lot of NGOs, told News Trail that the experience, although memorable, had bouts of difficulty.

“We had carried a truckload of essentials, collected from the Local NGOs here. At Tuticorin, we had seen places where the water levels had not receded,” he recalled.

Tauseef, along with three others had entered the areas which the local government there did not, “Since water was kneedeep, reaching there was difficult, we took a six kilometre de-tour. The locals, according to Ahmed, were shocked at the magnanimity of the flood, but lauded the efforts of the local government there.

“They had offered ration kits, built temporary bridges. On the reaction they had got after offering them the kits, Ahmed recalled the wide smiles he had seen, “They were especially happy to see us offer essentials. The flood had put people in sorrow, especially the farmers whose crops were destroyed.”

Four volunteers Tauseef Ahmed, Mohammed Saiffudin Sabeer, Sameer Barde, and Mohammed Mehraj had visited the ones affected by flood. One of them, whose hometown is Tuticorin, suggested that they provide relief to those affected.
