Proposal to make Basavanna cultural ambassador

Bengaluru: Lingayat seers called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his home office Krishna on Monday, demanding that 12th century philosopher and saint Basavanna be declared the state’s cultural ambassador.

The CM responded to the seers the matter would be brought before the Cabinet, discussed and a call would be taken on it.

Siddaramaiah told the seers that he personally looked upon the proposal favourably.

The delegation also consisted of representatives of women’s groups, farmer leaders and Dalit activists.

The seers making the demand included Srishaila Jagadaguru, Fakir Dingaleshwar, Jagadaguru Channabasavananda and Gyana Prakash Swamy, among others.
