Bengaluru: As part of an initiative to conserve the city’s greenery, students from the 224 schools run by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had planted 1 lakh trees, as part of the ‘Hasiru Rakshaka’ program.
Mechanism of this program is carried through a remote sensing app. Trees planted by students will have a Unique ID, which contains information on growth and nourishment.
Geo-tagging, and tracking are other features listed in the app.
Park Monitoring System, ‘Kere Mitra’ amongst other apps unveiled by Palike:
The civic body has also released ‘Udyana Mitra’ an app which monitors maintenance of BBMP Parks.
Aspects like watering of plants, sweeping, weeding, trimming, lawn mowing, and removal of garbage can be monitored by resident-volunteers.
Kere Mitra, also known as the lake monitoring system follows a similar framework, as the public have the impetus to monitor lake cleanliness and encroachments.
This comes as a move to digitise grievance redressal and an attempt to democratise key aspects.
