Bengaluru: On Tuesday, January 16, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) issued a followup reminder to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate (DM) of Bengaluru Urban District, urging swift action in response to the tragic suicide of Aditya Prabhu, a first-year BTech student at PES University.

In its earlier communication dated December 12, 2023, the commission directed the district authorities to initiate an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Aditya Prabhu's suicide.

A reminder notice was dispatched on December 27, 2023, emphasising the urgency of the matter and the need for prompt and thorough investigative action by the concerned authorities.

On the other hand, a social media post on the Instagram handle @justiceforadityaprabhu which has over 16,000 followers stated, “Certain steps are being taken and some changes are considered to be made in the education system through our cause and we are happy about it. However, we are not satisfied because it is deviating from the main agenda. We want institutions to realise that students should be handled with care under any circumstances and a proper, acceptable SOP must be followed. These are the changes we expect. Open book exams might be a good option to reduce academic pressure among students but it will still not solve the main issue. The main issue here is the mishandling of students in the name of being strict leading to harassment and mental torture, and we shouldn't forget that. Only these changes will do justice to Aditya and countless students out there who have ended up in similar situations of harassment and fallen prey to the hands of clear negligence. However, We have tried our best and we will continue to do so.”
