CM appeals to voters to reject BJP in LS polls for opposing Constitution

Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday asked dalits, minorities, and other backward classes(OBCs) to reject the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) in the upcoming parliamentary polls for its anti-Constitution, antipoor and anti-social justice stances.
He recalled that BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde was openly urging voters to give a two thirds majority to the party to effect changes in the Constitution.
Speaking at the guarantees scheme beneficiaries’ convention held at Chamarajanagar, the CM said the Constitution has guaranteed equal rights to all 140 crore citizens besides granting special protection to oppressed classes.
As there is a threat to democracy and the Constitution from this political party, people must support the Congress in the parliamentary polls which safeguards the interests of the poor, farmers, laborers and women, he said.
The CM said that he had implemented the five poll guarantees schemes, inspired by European governments' universal basic income scheme aimed at improving the purchasing power of people.
Over 4.60 crore beneficiaries from 1.20 crore families have benefited from the poll guarantees, he disclosed.
The government has set aside Rs 52,009 crore for the next fiscal year to continue the poll guarantee schemes and has also allocated another Rs 62,000 crore to take up other development works in the 2024-25 fiscal year, he said.
Siddaramaiah also regretted that inequality and the practice of casteism still continue in society even 77 years after Independence.
