Stickers on registered water tankers a must, says Palike

Bengaluru: In a move to bring clarity on the registered tanker containers, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Sunday issued guidelines on affixing stickers.
The stickers, which will be prepared by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage (BWSSB) will be provided by the BBMP.
Karnataka’s state capital Bengaluru is reeling under a water crisis, as bore wells have dried up, and water supply to outskirts have reduced by large.
Tanker owners, who have enrolled through the self-registration portal, should ensure that registration certificate, stickers, owner’s name contact number, self-registration and name of the zone is available, failing which action would be taken.
On March 7, the district administration had announced fixed prices for these tankers. These came in the background of resident’s complaints of exorbitant prices demanded by these tankers.
As on March 17, 1732 tankers have registered under BBMP’s portal. It is a slight increase from last week’s numbers of 1530. Both the Palike and the board have reiterated that the unregistered tankers will not be supplied water from their sources.
Residents can call both the helplines (1916 for BWSSB, 1533 for BBMP) if the tankers demand prices higher than the fixed rates or supply low-quality water.
95% of private tankers registered, says BWSSB Chairman
Chairman of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board Ram Prasath Manohar on Sunday claimed as many as 95 percent of the registration of private water tankers is completed.
The chairman claimed this, after his visit to slum areas in Deenabandhu Nagar and Sri Rama Nagar. He threatened ‘legal action,’ against those unregistered tankers.
He also ensured proper supply of water to those depending on Cauvery water connections.
The outskirts of the city still wait for Cauvery water connection, claims the chairman.
“The BBMP is providing water in these areas. Steps will be taken to mitigate the water problems in the outskirts,” he added.
