250 Bengalureans gather to support Ladakh activist
Nagaresh V | NT, Bengaluru: Showing their support for the attempts to resolve the climate crisis in Ladakh, environmentalists and supporters of Ladhaki activist Sonam Wangchuk initiated a silent gathering and discussion showing their solidarity for the struggle.
Over 250 people from different parts of the city gathered at Freedom Park on Sunday and held discussions regarding the deteriorating environment in Ladakh after permission was granted to private players to install Industrial plants and implement the 13 Gigawatt project without the permission of locals.
Speaking to News Trail, Padma Ladon a Ladhaki studying in Bengaluru said, "Ladakh, which is known for its beauty and distinct culture needs to preserved and prioritised by the natives and bureaucrats instead of letting it succumb to rapid industrialisation and environmental deterioration.”
A resident from Uttarakhand Nupur Dharia, whose roots are in the Himalayan mountain ranges, shared her support for the cause of Ladakh and said, “Nowadays even in March the place is experiencing, unprecedented rainfall and snowfall owing to climate change. We either experience heavy rainfalls leading to floods or lack of rainfall leading to droughts.”
She further added that this is the time for people in the country to plan for the future. A resident from Uttarakhand Mukhudaniya said, "After 3 idiots, I was inspired by Sonam Wangchuk due to his contributions in the fields of Engineering, Environment and Education. It is the need of the hour for the Ladakh administration to respond to Sonam Wangchuk's fast.''
