City Commissioner to media: Please stop airing video of Attiguppe metro station suicide

Bengaluru: The City Police Commissioner B Dayananda has expressed disappointement against the media for airing the video related to the case of a student committing suicide by jumping in front of a train at Attiguppe metro station.
The police commissioner said that this is against the media code of conduct.
Sharing a circular from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Bengaluru Police Commissioner said, "The video of the recent Attiguppe metro station incident is being circulated in some media. While it is a personal tragedy for the young man and his grieving family, the media should restrain from causing them more trouble by circulating the video of the incident. I request the TV media to stop airing the video immediately."
"The media channels have been broadcasting scenes of suicide, crime, exploitation of women, children against the elderly, death, accidents, etc., which may be inappropriate for several sections of audience. The media should be responsible and disciplined while broadcasting such videos, and news," said the Infor mation and Broadcasting Ministry in a circular.
A 19-year-old student, Dhruv Thakkar, committed suicide by jumping onto the Attiguppe metro train on March 21. The youth was reportedly suffering from mental depression.
