Rename stands of Chinnaswamy after '74 heroes: CM to KSCA

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requested the Kar nataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Monday to rename the stands of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after G R Vishwanath, EAS Prasanna, and B S Chandrasekhar, who made significant contributions to the state’s cricketing history and the nation.
This initiative comes 50 years after Karnataka, led by Prasanna and Vishwanath, ended Mumbai’s 15-year monopoly in the Ranji Trophy by winning its maiden title.
Siddaramaiah's letter to KSCA President Raghuram Bhat follows a request from Author and Historian Ramachandra Guha. Guha's letter highlights fans' longstanding request to rename stands after the cricket legends, similar to stands in stadiums in Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi named after state legends.
"If the KSCA remains unwilling, I suggest the State Government rename the roads adjoining the stadium after them," the letter proposed.
Siddaramaiah's letter concludes with a push for renaming the stands, stating, "The request has merit and will inspire upcoming cricketers of the state."
