BBMP initiates survey to address Bluru's water crisis

Bengaluru: In an aim to mitigate the water crisis, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Thursday vowed to survey areas that face water shortage, reports confirmed.
Bengaluru has been reeling under a water crisis for the past few months, owing to a failed monsoon last year and the depletion in groundwater levels.
Reports suggest that the city has a deficit of 500 million litres a day (MLD). With the unbearable summer heat, the water crisis is set to deepen.
As per a list made by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), 247 localities in the city face water supply issues. Bagalugunte, Peenya, Kadu Malleswara, Rajajinagar, Chickpet, Hosakerehalli, Yelachenahalli, Bommanahalli, HSR Layout and Marathahalli are amongst a few areas listed.
A preliminary survey was reportedly undertaken on the 110 villages usurped by the palike in 2007.
In the Mahadevapura Zone, 3.4 lakh residents face water shortage, 3 lakh each in Bommanahalli, South and East Zone.
