Bengaluru: Amidst Bengaluru’s water crisis which has put residents and commercial establishments in a predicament, The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has pushed for the use of treated water.

On Friday, it claimed that demand for treated water from bulk users has increased. In 714 bulk users of water in the city, 127 bulk users have demanded treated water, the Water Board claimed.

This increase in demand, the BWSSB says, will reduce the burden on the Cauvery water supply. Recently the state government had ordered apartments to sell 50 percent of the treated water.

However, it is learnt that the apartments do not have a middleman to sell it to desired users.

Firstly, the BWSSB and the Bangalore Apartments Federation (BAF) have signed an agreement in which the former will facilitate the sale of treated water from apartments.

Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar said treated water would initially be supplied via water tankers.”We are mulling the supply of water to users via pipelines,” he added.

Costs for water treatment will be borne by the apartments. This will also help improve the revenue stream of the Water Board. In addition to the push for treated water, usage of aerators is also promoted by the BWSSB.

As of Friday, 2,86,114 aerators are installed on faucets. 481 bulk consumers told the Water Board that they have installed aerators.

Water Board told to revive bore wells in B’luru east Bengaluru East, home to IT corridors and companies, is one amongst theworst hit of the water crisis.
