Now, AI to monitor Bengaluru’s groundwater table

Bengaluru: As Artificial Intelligence (AI) is closing in on its prominence in Bengaluru, The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Monday, will adopt a groundwater monitoring system based on AI.

This is prepared with collaboration from the Indian Institute of Sciences (IIsc). Bengaluru, which is reeling under a water crisis, has a depleted groundwater table.

According to a ground water assessment by the Union Government, All groundwater units in both Rural and Urban Bengaluru are over exploited.

In a meeting with IISc scientists and officials from the Central Groundwater Authority, Chairman of the BWSSB Ram Prasath Manohar confirmed that the software for monitoring will be developed by IISc.

The software will collect data regarding the water levels and reports will be sent to the Water Board and the Karnataka Ground Water Authority (KGWA).

‘Ground Water Task Force’ launched

The task force, featuring higher officials from the BWSSB, scientists from IISc, and groundwater officials from the state and the centre will also be monitoring groundwater tables in both Rural and Urban Bengaluru.
