Bengaluru: In 2018, after polling in the state assembly elections, a few youngsters had entered a restaurant, amidst the ever-busy Nrupathunga Road in the Central Business District (CBD).
They complained to Krishnaraj, the owner, that the system lacks representation, and their votes don’t make a difference.
“It is young people like you who are going to lead the nation, you should keep practicing this right prescribed to you,” responded Raj, who offered sizzling dosas for free, here on, Raj vowed to continue it whenever Bengaluru goes to polls.
Voters with inked fingers excitedly waited at the Nisarga Grand in Nrupathunga Road, which offered them free Benne Dosas, a dessert and a cup of watermelon juice, to beat the heat. - Not a bad way to fill one’s tummies, after fulfilling their democratic rights.
In his conversation with News Trail, Krishna Raj, claimed that they've been serving free food since 2018.
“For the Assembly polls in 2018, we served food to around 3400 voters. We continued this for the Lok Sabha polls in 2019, where the numbers went up to 5000 voters,” he added.
As of 6.00 pm on Friday, the hotel has seen 6800 voters eat for free, the highest so far.
Increasing voter count and the satisfaction in filling tummies are the driving force of Krishna’s cause. “It brings a smile to my face when I see voters fill queues outside. As they share this with their circle, it becomes a never ending queue,” he said.
Increasing awareness amongst citizens is also Raj’s aim. When asked about the costs incurred, Raj responded, “We don’t calculate the expenses incurred here. We’ve never thought about how it would impact our costs, all we want is for people to get out and vote, and have our tasty food,” he concluded.
