Bengaluru: In the 2024 Lok Sabha election in Bengaluru, there was a noticeable absence of young voters, contrasting with the dedication of senior citizens exercising their civic duty.

Notably, 105-year-old K V Rajamma joined the democratic process in Chickpet, Bangalore South, accompanied by her grandson.

SPARSH Hospitals ensured that even inpatients had access to voting, providing transportation and medical aid.

Ramamurthy, a 97-year-old voter from South Bengaluru, emphasised the importance of participation, stating, "If you don't vote, you lose the right to question."

Parvathy, 86, echoed this sentiment, underscoring the duty to choose government representatives.

Advocate Vinay Srineevasa observed the determination of senior citizens arriving at polling booths despite mobility challenges, expressing a desire for greater youth involvement.

The election showcased the unwavering commitment of older generations to democracy and highlighted the need for increased engagement among the younger population. (With inputs from Yashaswini Krishna)
