BBMP deploys 39 ‘tree cutting’ teams amid deluge

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: As Bengaluru enters its days of deluge before the onset of monsoon, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, in an act of preparedness, established 39 ‘tree cutting’ teams on Saturday. Last week, the city finally saw rainfall after a long gap.

Although it offered a respite from the unbearable heat, it also exposed the Palike’s preparedness, as roads were waterlogged, and trees across the city fell and caused damage to property.

Heavy rainfall is forecasted for the coming days across the state. The forest department of the BBMP will head these teams.

Tree cutting and clearing teams are established across 28 assembly constituencies of the city. 11 additional teams will also be call away.

Seven workers led by a supervisor is what a tree cutting team will look like, according to the BBMP. essential equipment to cut and move the trees will be equipped by the workers. Five bike teams, in addition, have been identified and established.

The forest department has deployed cranes and JCB bulldozers, two each to help clear the fallen tree on the roads. The forest wing of the civic agency has also set six temporary dumping zones, in addition to eight zonal depots.

As per data from the Forest department, 271 trees have been uprooted and 486 branches/twigs have fallen, as of Saturday.
