Over 2000 illegal sewage pipelines detected, says BWSSB
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a move to uphold public health in the city, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) had identified over 2000 illegal connections, in their inspection of around 17000 sewage lines here on Saturday.
Unauthorized connections to the sewage lines increases pressure and thus it overflows on the road. The sewage will act as a catalyst to public health diseases.
The BWSSB on April 24 had vowed to crack down on such connections, giving deadlines to apply for permissions. It was found that out of 2137 unauthorized connections, 587 were of apartments.
260 of them, according to the water board, had applied for it. Notices were sent to 1390 illegal users and 60 of them were fined.
This comes at a point where the city saw cases in cholera rise. Officials are directed to intensify their inspections of sewage lines and levy fines on those refusing to obtain permission.
