Another young woman in Hubballi stabbed to death by jilted lover
Hubballi, NT Bureau: An other young woman was brutally murdered in Hubballi city allegedly by a jilted lover following the recent case of Neha Hiremath.
Vishwa Sawant alias Girish, 23, stabbed a 21-year-old student, Anjali Mohan Ambigera, to death on Wednesday morning and fled from the spot. Bendigeri Police are on the lookout for the accused.
According to the police, Anjali was murdered around 5 am after the accused barged into her house with a knife. Anjali's sister, Yashoda, witnessed the murder and alerted her relatives and the police.
"Girish was harassing my sister Anjali for sometime now," Yashodha told reporters.
"A few days back, he had expressed his love for her, but Anjali had spurned him. He had then threatened her that if she did not accompany him to to Mysuru, she would meet the same fate as that of Neha Hiremath," She added.
Yashoda also claimed that they had approached the police regarding the matter earlier, but the officers there failed to pursue the matter seriously.
"My granddaughter would be alive if the police had taken the matter seriously," Gangamma, Anjali's grandmother said.
Anjali Mohan Ambigera and her sister used to live with their grandmother at a house in Kariyammana Gudi. Anjali used to work at a canteen while the accused, Girish, was a resident of Yellapur and is said to be a classmate of Anjali.
Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner, Renuka Sukumar said,"There are 7-8 knife wounds on Anjali’s body. She was found dead at the doorstep of her grandmother's house. A case under section 302 of the IPC has been registered," she said.
Anjali's family and local residents staged a protest here demanding strict action against the accused.
The incident took place just a few weeks after a 23-year-old college student, Neha Hiremath, was stabbed to death by her former classmate, Fayaz Khodunaik, which led to a political slugfest and demands for a CBI probe.
As the accused in Neha's case was a Muslim, the BJP had alleged 'love jihad' as the motive behind the murder.
