BBMP chief: Clear potholes, Rajakaluves
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: With the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an Orange Alert for Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts from the weekend signalling very heavy rainfall, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath is pushing civic officials to clear potholes, clean Storm Water Drains (SWDs) and rajakaluves and also set up an active control room to resolve any emergency and attend to distress calls of citizens.
Zonal Commissioners are being instructed to inspect arterial, sub-arterial and ward roads and fill potholes with both hot and cold mix of asphalt. Girinath has also warned against the redoing of roads, without obtaining the required permission.
The BBMP is facing a huge backlash over improper waste management and the chief commissioner has instructed solid waste management officials to clear black spots in the city to avoid diseases and public health related problems.
Of the 198 flood prone areas identified in the city, officials claim that 124 areas have been taken care of. B S Prahlad, Chief Engineer B B M P claimed that of the remaining 74 areas, work is on at 24 while temporary measures have been implemented at 50 such spots.
