Legal experts discuss victim protection in Prajwal case
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Women activists, legal experts and social activists sat together to discuss the plight of the victims who were allegedly sexually assaulted by JD(S) MP from Hassan Prajwal Revanna, here on Thursday.
On May 2, a complaint was filed against Prajwal for rape, which was followed by multiple complaints from reported victims in Hassan.
Organised by the All India Democratic Women’s Association, the meet evoked emotional responses from former judges, and bureaucrats.
Dr Nagalakshmi Chaudhary, Chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Women, claimed that she wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramiah to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
“The videos in the pen drive clearly show the abuse of power in the Revanna family. Most of them are domestic workers married, or have children, or even grandchildren,” she claimed.
Chaudhary demanded that a victim protection scheme be established by the government. “I will take the responsibility of protecting the women and their children, irrespective of how the investigation goes,” she said.
Other prominent legal experts demanded a separate court for this case where statements of both the victims and accused can be recorded. They also echoed Chaudhary’s demands for establishing a victim protection scheme.
