B'luru, identify a real cop from a fake one!

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Two separate incidents took place in the city sparking a controversy over cops collecting usual "mamul" collection of the day from the shops here.

The first incident, a bizarre one, is said to have taken place in Rajagopala Nagar area of Peenya where two night beat policemen were chased by a few residents who allegedly mistook them for imposters extorting money from vendors.

A video of the incident that went viral on Tuesday, showed a Hoysala car parked near a few roadside shops while a few locals, alleging that the cops were collecting bribes from the shopkeepers, attempted to confront them. However as the residents approached the car, the cops were seen driving off from the spot.

The locals, in the video, can be heard asking the cops to get out of their car after which the cops speed away from the place. The locals can be heard shouting, "Police kalla (rogue cops)" several times.

A video of the incident was widely shared and later came to the notice of senior officials including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda. Responding to a post, the Bengaluru Police assured that they have launched a probe into the matter and further details will be shared after the investigation.

In another incident, a 28-year-old man was detained by the Basaveshwara Nagar police for posing as a policeman and attempting to extort petty shop owners in Manjunathnagar in the city. The accused was identified as Nitesh, a resident of Kamakshipalya.

Nitesh, went around the shops allegedly demanding cigarettes, pan masala and cash from the traders introducing himself as a policeman. He was also flaunting a police helmet due to which the shopkeepers assumed that he was a real cop.

However one of the shop owners was sceptical and alerted the jurisdictional police following which a Hoysala team arrived at the spot and took him to the police station.
