K’taka LS polls done, officials to focus on monsoon prep, says Siddu
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said that the State government had requested the relaxation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Karnataka so as to enable officials to shift their focus from poll duties to other responsibilities such as monsoon preparedness.
Lok Sabha elections were held for 28 seats in Karnataka in two phases on April 26 and May 7. The CM made the comments to mediapersons after the conclusion of his video conference meeting with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) from all districts.
Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and Ag riculture Minister Chaluvaraya Swamy and others were also present in the meeting. The latter is also the Mandya district in-charge minister.
“The duration of the Model Code of Conduct was quite lengthy this time. Due to this, the administrative machinery had become stagnant. Officials weren’t able to give adequate attention to developmental works. Upon our request, the Election Commission (EC) has relaxed the poll code,” Siddaramaiah said.
“The Model Code of Conduct’s duration is up to June 6 (results day) this time. However, attention is required for some urgent work. District-level officials must work in coordination,” he added.
