Action against motorists using unauthorised stickers on vehicles
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The Karnataka Transport Department has war ned of action against motorists with unauthorised stickers on vehicles from June 1.
The transport authorities on Saturday said that the display of government department identities in the form of stickers or any symbol and marks on a private vehicle or its number plate could have a negative impact on the individual and the departments concerned.
Mostly, stickers with names of departments or institutions such as ‘PRESS’, ‘Secretariat’, ‘Karnataka Government’, ‘BBMP’, ‘Defence’, and ‘Police’ can be seen on private vehicles especially in Bengaluru.
Such affiliations displayed on private vehicles could compromise operational efficiency and safety and could lead to the misuse of the department’s reputation, the transport authorities said.
"It is noted that those who are not entitled for government vehicles, use their own vehicles with the name of their department in big letters stuck on the windshield and on registration number plates. This is done for several reasons including to impress their neighbours and to avoid paying parking fee or toll fee by claiming to be a government official," a senior official from the transport department said.
In addition, many private vehicles also have symbols or logos and emblems depicting a political party, doctors, or advocates.
"Even the officials using such stickers on private vehicles can be pulled up," the official added. The transport department said that it had already booked cases against hundreds of such vehicles across the state.
To crackdown upon these vehicles, seven special teams have been formed which will initiate action against the vehicle owners.
