BTP collects Rs 15.99 L from traffic offenders in a week

Bengaluru: In order to keep a tab on reckless and rash driving, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) initiated a special drive on Friday night and booked cases against traffic violators in the city.
According to a report shared by the BTP, the personnel screened over 17,361 motorists across the city during the drive and booked 386 drivers after they were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Bengaluru South Division, Shivprakash Devaraj along with other officials wearing body cameras monitored several junctions until 2 am while the personnel were screening the motorists in Drink and Drive (DD) cases.
In the West Division, the traffic police booked 12 youths who were involved in reckless driving and wheelies. Between January 1 and May 6, the Rajajinagar traffic police conducted targeted operations, uncovering 14 instances of wheelie stunts on major roads like the Outer Ring Road, West of Chord Road, and Sankey Road within their jurisdiction.
Meanwhile in a special operation conducted between May 16 and May 23, the North Division traffic police cracked down upon 2,647 motorists who had pending challans issued for traffic violations and collected Rs 15.99 lakh in fines from them.
The traffic police also booked cases on the motorists involved in footpath riding, shrill horn, masked/defective number plates, auto rickshaw drivers, BBMP truck drivers, water tankers, for various traffic offences.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, North, Siri Gowri, stated in a press release that two cases have been lodged against the parents of minors found engaged in stunts and wheelies.
Legal action is being pursued under Section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) against the arrested individuals, with efforts underway to revoke the driving licenses of five offenders through the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
