Cong MLA, ex-MLA in spat over water tankers

Vijayanagara, NT Bureau: Congress MLA from Vijayanagara HR Gaviyappa and former BJP legislator Anand Singh got into a public spat on Sunday over unexpected reasons.

The Hospet City Corporation Commissioner Chandrappa on Sunday forbade private tankers from drawing water from a borewell, citing scarcity of water. The private water tanks included those belonging to former BJP M L A from Vijayanagara Anand Singh.

When Singh’s tanker was forbidden from drawing water by authorities, his supporters gathered at the spot and staged a protest. The former MLA then called Gaviyappa over the phone and made a public show of demanding that his tanker be allowed to draw water.

He reasoned that if water was reaching houses in a regular fashion, then there would be no need for tankers. Singh went on to point out that earlier Gaviyappa’s own tankers had been allowed to draw water and distribute it with the Congressman’s picture emblazoned on the vehicles.

Gaviyappa hit back at the former MLA, saying that his request could not be accommodated. Singh had been a Congressman earlier in his political career.
