Police arrest interstate chain snatcher, recover gold ornaments worth Rs 2.35 lakh

Mysuru, NT Bureau: Saraswathipuram City Police have apprehended an interstate chain snatcher and recovered gold ornaments valued at Rs 2.35 lakh, along with a scooter, from his possession.

On May 22, a chainsnatching case was reported at the Saraswathipuram Police Station, where the culprit targeted a woman who was returning home after purchasing milk from a local booth, stealing her mangal sutra chain.

The Saraswathipuram Police formed a dedicated team to investigate the case, leading to the perpetrator's arrest near Bengaluru City Railway Station on May 29. During interrogation, the accused confessed not only to the Saraswathipuram incident but also to another chain-snatching incident in Lakshmipuram Police Station's jurisdiction, as well as the theft of a two-wheeler in Cottonpet Police Station's area in Bengaluru.

The accused has a history of criminal activities and had previously served as seven year prison sentence. According to official statements, he had been recently released but is involved in over 40 cases across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
