
100mm rain, 200 trees uprooted in Garden City
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The South-West Monsoon is yet to hit Karnataka but Bengaluru is already being pounded by heavy rains which, accompanied by strong winds on Sunday, uprooted as many as 206 trees of which 99 were in the South Zone, according to numbers from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Complaints of waterlogging were reported with key arterial roads in the Central Business District (CBD) getting inundated, causing traffic congestion. Visuals from social media showed an uprooted tree on top of two vehicles in Jayanagar reportedly causing heavy damage.
The Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a rainfall of 100mm. Meanwhile, M N Anucheth, Joint Commissioner of Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) said that around 58 areas have got waterlogged. 'Namma Metro' services also got disrupted after a branch fell on a metro viaduct.
Services on the Purple Line from Indiranagar to MG Road were disrupted as the branch fell near Trinity Metro station. Roads were inundated in the city outskirts too in Electronic City, Marathahalli, Outer Ring Road and Nagawara leading to huge traffic snarls.
