Three minors in conflict with law for jewellery theft

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Three minors including a girl were placed under the care of the special juvenile police unit after they allegedly stole jewellery worth Rs 24.50 lakh from their house in the city.

A resident of Parappana Agrahara Police Station limits had recently filed a theft complaint after he found that valuables including jewellery had been stolen from his house.

Taking up the case, the police scanned footage from more than 60 CCTV cameras following which they found the involvement of children in the theft case. The police said that the three juveniles are friends.

One of the juveniles, a girl, had allegedly stolen an ATM card belonging to her grandmother a few days ago and withdrew some money, the police said. Later when the family found out about it, they allegedly nagged her for it.

Feeling low on self-esteem, the child shared the matter with her friends and they plotted to steal the jewellery from her house and sell it. One of the boys was then made to wear a burqa and was shown the place where the girl's parents used to keep the house keys.

The police said that the boy broke into the house when the girl's parents had gone out and stole the jewellery from a cupboard. Not knowing what to do with the jewellery, the children took it to their tuition teacher seeking his help in selling it.

According to the police, the girl had cooked up a story and told her teacher that her family was in urgent need of money.

The valuables were with the teacher until the police recovered it following an investigation. Children coming in conflict with the law is a problem that affects not only the children but also their families, communities and society
