Practice of yogasana helps one keep healthy: Minister Mahadevappa

Mysuru, NT Bureau: State social welfare and district minister Dr HC Mahadevappa on Friday said that the practice of yogasana, its meditation techniques and breathing exercises help people to be healthy as well as lead a disciplined life.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 10th International Yoga Day celebrations at Mysuru Palace premises in the city.

He said that ancient yoga techniques which have been practised by people from time immemorial in the country, not only influenced the outside world due to their enormous health benefits but also made the United Nations decide to celebrate yoga at the international level ten years ago.

Over 198 countries now celebrate International Yoga Day. The minister wanted all individuals to practice yoga regularly as it not only helps cure various stress related diseases but also helps family members to be active throughout the day.

Mysuru entered the Guinness Book of Records when a large number of people performed yoga at Race Course in the city when he was district minister then, Dr Mahadevappa recalled.

Newly elected Member of Parliament Yaduveer KC Wadiyar appreciated Mysureans and organizations for celebrating International Yoga Day.

He said Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and other Mysuru royal family members not only practised yoga but also patronized the ancinet techniques in the city. He said he would provide all help to popularize yoga during the forthcoming Naada Habba Dasara celebrations.
