DCM tells BBMP to maintain road after residents seen cleaning it
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Following reports suggesting that residents volunteered for a clean-up drive on Balagere Road in the city outskirts, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday ordered officials of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to look into the issue.
On Sunday, residents in Balagere, had reportedly cleaned the road connecting Kadubeesanahalli and Varthur. It is learnt that the civic body abandoned the extension project due to a lack of funds.
As two-wheeler accidents were on the rise on this stretch, residents took it on themselves to clear the three-kilometre stretch of mud and dirt. Reports of their action reached the government following which the BBMP sent a mechanized sweeping machine to the place.
Residents claim that this road is not part of the BBMP’s annual contract for maintenance. They urged the government to include the road in the maintenance list.
A resident claimed that the road has not been cleaned for several years. “Despite Mahadevapura Zone contributing around Rs. 600 crore in taxes, the lack of developmental works leaves us disappointed,” said another resident.
