BTP trains 22,985 students on first day of Road Safety Awareness prog
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a proactive move to enhance road safety awareness among students, Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has initiated the 'Students Association for Road Safety' (SARS) program.
Aimed at educating young minds on responsible road behaviour, this initiative is part of the department's ongoing efforts to reduce road accidents and promote safer commuting practices.
Under the SARS program, specially trained officers from the BTP have been conducting interactive sessions in schools across the city. These sessions cover a wide range of topics including traffic rules, pedestrian safety, and importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, and the dangers of reckless driving.
"The program not only educates students but also empowers them to become ambassadors of road safety within their communities," an official from Traffic Management Centre, said on Tuesday. The SARS program underscores BTP’s commitment to fostering a culture of safety on Bengaluru's roads.
"By engaging with students at a young age, we aim to instil lifelong habits that prioritize safety and responsibility," the official said.
He further said that the response from schools and students has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants expressing newfound awareness and a sense of responsibility towards road safety.
Moving forward, the BTP plans to expand the SARS program to reach more schools and engage with a broader cross-section of students. This expansion is part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce road accidents and promote a safer environment for all road users in Bengaluru.
The programme began on June 24 and will conclude on June 28, the official from TMC said, adding that through this programme, the BTP intends to reach out to one lakh students in five days. As a part of this campaign, the traffic police officers visited a total of 99 schools & colleges and trained over 22,985 students.
