Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Cor poration has launched a comprehensive health screening programme to detect and address respiratory ailments among its employees.
Under the leadership of Ramachandran R, IAS, managing director of BMTC, the corporation has partnered with Dr. Ravindra M. Mehta, founder and director of Vayu Chest and Sleep Centre, to conduct the specialised health camp.
The inaugural session of the free lung and respiratory health screening camp began on Friday at the Centre in Jayanagar 5th Block.
The initiative aims to screen 50 BMTC employees daily, providing assessments of blood pressure, oxygen levels, blood sugar, lung capacity, ENT evaluations, lung X-rays and consultation with respiratory specialists.
Recognising the demanding nature of their jobs within Bengaluru's transport system, approximately 11,200 BMTC employees over the age of 40 have previously undergone cardiac screening at the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.
Now, the focus is on early detection and management of respiratory conditions. Dr Nandita Sanghani, overseeing the health camp, highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and prompt intervention for lung-related issues.
Employees diagnosed with respiratory ailments will receive initial medications and follow-up consultations free of charge, reflecting BMTC's commitment to the welfare of its employees.
