Dengue rising! Over 7,000 cases in K'taka, 7 succumb

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that 7,362 cases of dengue had been registered in Karnataka since the start of the year, adding that seven persons had succumbed to the disease so far.

He directed officials to focus on combating dengue at the source, which are pools of stagnant water which serve as mosquito breeding sites.

“As many as 7,362 cases of dengue have been registered this year and 303 of them are active cases. Until now, seven persons have died of dengue fever. Yesterday, a technical committee meeting was held. Mosquito breeding sites should be destroyed. This is because mosquitoes lay eggs and larvae develop in stagnant water. We often store water in drums and utensils. This disease is spread by mosquitoes. It isn’t communicable between humans,” Siddaramaiah said.

“This is why I’ve told the Health Department to reserve 10 beds for dengue patients in every district hospital,'' the CM said.
