With over Rs 184 cr sanctioned for street vendors, BBMP ranks second in PM SVANidhi scheme

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: For their continuous efforts in promoting street vendors in the city, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has been ranked second among other mega and million-plus cities in the country under the PM Street Vendors Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

This scheme, which also comes under the umbrella of the Deen Dayal Yojana as the National Urban Livelihoods Campaign (DAY-NULM), helps street vendors obtain short-term loans.

According to data from the MoHUA, out of 2,04,173 eligible applications, the BBMP has sanctioned 1,64,276 loans worth Rs. 199.94 crore. Rs. 184.36 crore has been disbursed, and 35,379 loans are being repaid as of Thursday, July 18.

The Delhi Municipal Corporation was ranked first, followed by the BBMP and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in Gujarat.

The award for this achievement was presented by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who holds the MoHUA portfolio, to Tushar Giri Nath, chief commissioner of the BBMP, in a ceremony in Delhi.
