Heavy rains make comeback to B’luru

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Despite recording its driest July, Bengaluru on Wednesday saw heavy rainfall with strong winds from the evening to the late hours of the day. Inundated roads and uprooted trees were a common sight for most citizens.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control rooms registered five complaints of trees falling. In the BBMP East Zone, One tree fell on Ali Asghar road, and another near Frazer town.

The one on Ali Asghar road, connecting Cunningham Road and Chalukya Circle, caused damage to an autorickshaw, It has been cleared, officials from the Bengaluru Traffic Police confirmed. The fallen tree in Frazer Town has also been cleared, officials told this daily.

The branch of a tree fell near the Seshadripuram Police Station, which falls under the West Zone and was cleared by the forest department. In the Bommanahalli zone, a tree fell near HSR Layout 1st stage. Forest Department officials are yet to clear it, it is learnt.

In Yelahanka in North Bengaluru, a complaint on a tree falling in Ward 6, Maruti Layout was reported, and it has been cleared. Due to the Rajakaluve getting blocked near Tindlu, waterlogging ensued bringing traffic to standstill.

The BTP reported waterlogging at the following places: Hebbal Police Station on the road towards the airport, Sanjay Nagar towards airport, Kasturi Nagar down ramp towards Hebbal, Ballari road, Jayamahal road near Mekhri circle, Grand Season Hotel road towards Ramamurthy Nagar, Queens Junction towards Anil Kumble circle, Veeranapalya towards Hebbal circle, Marathahalli underpass, Yemalur, Outer Ring Road at Kasturi Nagar, Nagawara Junction and Tin Factory towards Whitefield. Bengaluru Urban recorded 23 millimeters of rainfall while Electronic City recorded 22 mm.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall in the city for the next five days.
