'Ondanondu Kaladalli’ an enduring epic of bravery and betrayal

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: ‘Ondanondu Kaladalli’ is a 1978 Kannada epic film co-written and directed by Girish Karnad. The film marks the debut of Shankar Nag and Akshatha Rao, and it delves into themes of warrior ethics and medieval conflict, drawing significant inspiration from Akira Kurosawa's samurai films.

The film is acclaimed for its outdoor photography, highstandard acting, and striking decor. The story follows Gandugali, played by Shankar Nag, a mercenary entangled in a power struggle.

The film features a soundtrack by Bhaskar Chandavarkar and marks the debut of Kavita Krishnamurthy as a playback singer. On July 31, a performance inspired by ‘Ondanondu Kaladalli’ was staged at Ravindra Kalakshetra by a group registered with the Indian Book of Records.

The act was designed and directed by Rajguru Hoskote. Rajguru Hoskote told News Trail that he has been associated with Rangashankara for 15 years, and this play is performed annually on this date.

Hoskote has been a part of the play since he began his acting career, and this day holds special significance for him.
