Are we safe? Concerns rise over unstable trees

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In the wake of recent rains in Bengaluru, which have led to numerous incidents of falling trees, concerns are growing about the safety of hazardous trees in various parts of the city.

Last week, heavy rains resulted in a tragic incident in Maruthi Sevanagar, where an auto driver, Shivrudraiah from Vijayanagar, lost his life when a tree fell on him.

Despite the dangers, the process of clearing dangerous, dead trees has not yet commenced, raising alarm among residents. One such dangerous tree is located in the parking lot of the new OPD building at Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar.

This tree, completely devoid of leaves and with roots eaten away by termites, poses a significant risk to those around. Local resident Basavaraj has voiced his frustration, highlighting that this tree could collapse at any moment, endangering the numerous people who visit Bowring Hospital daily.

Similarly, a large dry branch from a tree near RV Road is hanging precariously, threatening to fall at any moment. In Jayanagar, three old trees near Raghavendra Swamy Mutt also present a risk of falling. Despite these hazards, no action has been taken to address the issue.

The Bowring Hospital area is particularly of worry due to its high traffic density. Patients and visitors regularly park their vehicles near this dangerous tree. Also, the Chandini Chowk Road is a popular shopping hub.
