Protection of trees 'Raksha Bandhan' for Bengaluru students

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a heartwarming gesture to combat Bengaluru's rapidly depleting tree cover, students of The Green School Bangalore (TGSB) in Muthasandra, Varthur, marked Raksha Bandhan with a unique campaign on Monday.

As part of the ‘Save Trees, Save Bengaluru’ initiative, students crafted colourful, handmade ‘rakhis’ and tied them to the trees around their school, symbolically hugging them to show their commitment to protecting the environment.

"Our art and crafts teacher guided us to create beautiful, big rakhis from recycled paper and waste. We used pasta shells, pencil shavings, old fabric, and corn cobs to create the rakhis," shared Aadhya Urs, a Grade 6 student at TGSB.

The students, along with their faculty and principal, tied rakhis to over 100 trees in the area. They also extended this gesture to the Muthasandra Government Hospital and the Panchayat office, tying rakhis to the wardens as a mark of respect for their service.

"The Green School Bangalore is a progressive SDG school committed to promoting harmony and environmental awareness. Through this unique Raksha Bandhan event, we are raising awareness about the importance of protecting our city's tree cover," said Usha Iyer, Founder & Principal of TGSB, one of India's first zero-carbon schools.

In collaboration with the Sampige Seed Ball Foundation, the school pledged to protect Bengaluru's trees.
