Uber driver snatches woman’s phone over payment dispute

An Uber driver allegedly snatched a woman’s phone and grabbed her hand during an argument over online payment.

According to the woman’s husband, she and a friend booked an Uber auto from Whitefield to Bannerghatta Road around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, opting to pay through Uber Money. After dropping her friend at her stop, the woman informed the driver that the payment had been processed online and could not be changed to cash or UPI. However, the driver became furious and insisted on cash payment.
Upon reaching her apartment gate, the driver grabbed her hand, demanding cash despite being shown a screenshot confirming the payment. The confrontation escalated when the driver snatched her phone. The woman called for help, and neighbors, along with security guards, intervened. Despite the arrival of the police, the driver initially refused to return her phone, only handing it back after 30 minutes.

Following the incident, the woman and her husband filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the driver, who spent the night at the station. This incident has sparked discussions on social media.
