Pearson launches 13th edition of ‘Conceptual Physics’ by Prof. Paul G. Hewitt, backed by Narayana Murthy to boost STEM education

In a step towards advancing STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in India, Pearson, the global leader in lifelong learning, unveiled the 13th edition of ‘Conceptual Physics’ by physicist Prof. Paul G. Hewitt. The event, held at the Infosys Science Foundation, featured Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys, who endorsed the book as an essential resource for Indian students aspiring to master the principles of physics. This launch aligns with India's 'Viksit Bharat' vision for 2047, which emphasises the importance of providing highquality education to propel the nation forward.

The updated 13th edition of 'Conceptual Physics' is tailored to support India's modern STEM curriculum, offering both students and educators comprehensive content that covers critical topics like mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, waves, and modern physics. With a strong focus on real-world applications in digital technology, environmental science, and energy, this edition provides Indian students with new opportunities to engage deeply with physics.

Narayana Murthy, during the launch, highlighted the importance of accessible, world-class learning resources in strengthening STEM education in India. He praised 'Conceptual Physics' for its student-centric approach, emphasising conceptual understanding and practical applications to make physics more relatable and easier to grasp. Murthy believes that Pearson's launch of this book will play a crucial role in positioning India as a global education hub, particularly in the field of STEM. Prof. Paul G. Hewitt’s ‘Conceptual Physics’ is known for its approach to simplifying complex physics concepts, making them accessible and engaging. The 13th edition, published by Pearson, builds on this legacy with updated content, realworld analogies, and the popular Hewitt-Drew-It screencasts, which make learning physics both informative and enjoyable.

Vinay Swamy, Country Head of Pearson India, emphasised the importance of providing quality learning resources as India emerges as a global engineering hub. Pearson plans to introduce 'Conceptual Physics' in regional languages like Hindi and Kannada to make it even more accessible to students and educators across India. The 13th edition of ‘Conceptual Physics’ will soon be available in bookstores and on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, ensuring wide accessibility.
