AICTE in pact with software developers to upskill 5 lakh students
In what could make a big difference to India’s future in the Information Technology (IT) sector, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has penned an agreement with software developers MongoDB, to upskill five lakh students within the next few years, it was announced here on Tuesday. This will be powered by SmartBridge’s SmartInternz program, which aims to offer 1 crore internship opportunities by the end of 2025.
The ministry aims to upskill around 75 per cent of the students from the rural backgrounds. Based in New York, USA, MongoDB is one of the leading platforms to develop modern applications used by prominent companies at present. It also has a academia wing, which offers courses at a price. Chief Coordinating Officer of AICTE Buddha Chandrasekhar said that the courses will be free of cost. “The country needs 40 crore skillable youth.
We are hoping that this course will help us catch up with the demands of the market,” he said. Buddha also forecast the future of employment in this sector. “By 2028, around six millon roles are expected to be filled but our forecasts say only 4.7 million. This partnership aims to fill that gap,” he explained. The courses from MongoDB will introduce students to the fundamentals of software.
This will be done during a seven-week internship program Area Vice President of MongoDB Sachin Chawla also felt the need to upskill the workforce, considering the rapid change in technology. “The need for upskilling from us came after customers complained of inconsistency in their service. So far, we’ve educated 1.1 lakh students with 3,000 educators and that is expected to go up by a notch,” he concluded.
